I was intending to write a post about Cupcake rumors for some time now, but had my hands busy with other things, so although this post is delayed, it is albeit timeless opinion, at least untill we’ll see some of the promised enhancements to come in Cupcake. I know, you are thinking now, but wait, there is no Cupkace reportedly. First, it is unclear whether there is going to be a Cupcake firmware and if yes, whether it will be called “Cupcake”. However if you think about it, all the enhancements that were described as part of the legendary Cupckae will be eventually released. They can not not to be released (double negation, I wonder how that works for you, but for me it works quite ok …).

Anyway, NYT reports that Cupcake is not the new firmware but merely a name of a development tool used inhouse to build the firmware. Nevertheless the names and nicks and the rumors, I am certain we will get the on screen keyboard and we already got voice search (which doesn’t work that great). I had a conversation about voice engine for Android with the main engineer developing and deploying it, but I can’t share the details because it was under NDA.

So what are the conclusions? I say we just have to wait for all the updates to come and they surelly will.

Whhile this is not something that should worry the phone users.,who actually won’t even know it without fiddling around with the phone, those are quite interesting news for the developers.

While the new SDK is not available for download from android development website, it seems that everything is fully backward compatible (at least from our tests) and developers shouldn’t be worried too much about the RC33 update having the new SDK. It seems though that we should be expecting a new SDK with another number in version and not in release candidate (RC) shortly to become available for download.

As far as we are aware of, we are the first ones to notice this and report. Lack of the new SDk for the developers seems strange. Is Google hiding something there and was hopping it would slide unnotices? Did they have some last mintute technical problem with the 1.1 SDK for developers and didn’t release it to developers just yet, but didn’t want to stop pushing the RC33 upgrade to the users?
